Our Curriculum

Children learn at Barn Close preschool through adult-led activities and free play, which are designed to be engaging, challenging, and open-ended. Our sessions include storytelling, music, Yoga, arts and crafts, and exploration of the natural world, with resources tailored to each child's age and abilities. We maintain a familiar routine to help children feel comfortable and confident, while also embracing "in-the-moment" planning to meet children's interests and preferences.
The curriculum supports the growth and development of children through play, guided by the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) principles, focusing on seven key areas of learning.
Prime Areas
- Personal, social and emotional development
- Physical development
- Communication and language

Specific Areas
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the world
- Expressive arts and design
"Play is never play, it's learning in action"
What does our day look like?
Staff are available to greet parents and carers upon arrival, and to assist children with hanging up their bags and coats before self-registering. Children can then select from a wide range of activities and resources, with Key Workers nearby to help children settle and remain engaged throughout the morning.
Snack time is at 10 a.m, where children can select from a variety of healthy foods and learn to pour their own drinks.
Following snacks, we have Circle Time, which includes activities such as musical instruments, finger puppets, parachute games, story sacks, and action rhymes. We offer weekly Children’s Yoga and Mindfulness classes alongside a special daily focus time for our Clover group.
After Circle Time, children enjoy new activities, and we gather for stories before they go home or join our lunch club and afternoon session.
Our outdoor area is open throughout the session, offering a range of engaging toys such as cars, bikes, a sandpit, and a mud kitchen.

Learning Groups
At Barn Close Pre School,
we offer two learning groups for our children:
Bramble
Clover
The Bramble group is designed for our preschoolers, focusing on helping our new starters and younger children settle in and learn through play, while supporting their development across all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
The Clover group is for our older nursery-aged children.
Alongside Bramble activities, this group is specifically tailored for slightly older children and offers small-group activities that focus on fostering independence and helping them become school-ready.

Sustainability
We are passionate about including sustainability within our curriculum. With trained staff and support from our local council, we offer a range of activities to support our environment.
These activities include;
- Gardening & Planting
- Feeding the surrounding wildlife
- Food Waste & Recycling
We believe that teaching children that small steps lead to big changes creating a better world for them to grow in.
